Coppett Hill: A Must‑Do Walk for Families, Dogs & Nature Lovers
Coppett Hill is one of the Wye Valley’s most beautiful spots, offering big views, peaceful woodland and plenty of space for families — and dogs — to explore. From colourful autumn leaves to springtime bluebells, it’s a walk that feels magical in every season.


Explore Picturesque Tintern
Nestled against the bank of the River Wye, the main attraction is Tintern Abbey which has been a tourist destination since the 18th century.


Explore Goodrich Castle
Only a 10 minute drive from our campsite lies Goodrich Castle, which once guarded a crossing of the River Wye in the 11th century.


Seven Sisters Walk
One of our favourite short loops is the walk to the Seven Sisters viewpoint. This walk takes you through the woods, passed King Arthurs cave and on to a beautiful viewpoint on the Seven Sisters rocks overlooking the river Wye. Our Adventure Playground!
The Adventure Playground at Doward Park Campsite is a safe, woodland‑themed play area designed for young children to explore, climb and enjoy during their stay. It’s located right on the campsite, close to the facilities, and offers a relaxed, natural space for families to unwind. Explore nearby castles
Did you know this area has more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the UK! So take a step back in time and enjoy some of the best medieval ruins in the country! Some of our favourite castles to explore are: Goodrich Castle - One of the best preserved British medieval castles - 13 minute drive. All Aboard The Perrygrove Railway!
A great day out for young children is a visit to the Perrygrove Railway Adventure. A return journey takes 30 minutes and you can hop on and off at the various stations to enjoy the different play areas. There is a treetop adventure area, Twilight Village - 5 houses connected by secret passageways - and an adventure playground. There is also a cafe and woodland walks. It is about 25 minutes drive from the campsite, you can visit the website here to learn more.


Monmouth Leisure Centre
Perfect for a rainy day! 10 minutes drive away or just over an hours walk along the river in the market town of Monmouth is a great leisure centre with plenty to offer for everyone. There is a 25m swimming pool, spa facilities, squash courts, multi use outdoor courts, and various gym facilities. Also for the children there is a 3 storey children’s soft play area. Canoe or kayak on the River Wye
A canoe or kayak trip is the best way to experience the river wye. There are multiple canoe hire companies close by to choose from, you can arrange by the hour or do a half/whole day tour. There are paddleboards, canoes and kayaks available. Check out the Wye Valley AONB page for more information on canoeing the River Wye Helpful publications. Take in the most spectacular view of the River Wye at Yat Rock
For one of the best views over the river Wye, head up to the viewpoint at Yat Rock in Symonds Yat. Here you not only have a spectacular view from an old iron age fort, but also the chance to spot peregrine falcons who nest in the 100 metre cliffs nearby. Walk from the campsite down to the river and over the bridge at Biblins. Walk along the river towards the Saracens Head pub then up the steep track on your right to arrive at Yat Rock. King Arthur's Cave
A favourite with kids, king Arthurs cave is only a 5 -10 minute walk from the campsite. The limestone cliffs formed 345 million years ago and in the 1800's excavators found the remains of hyenas, lions, bears and woolly mammoths in the cave!


Flora & Fauna of the Doward
We are lucky to have such a large amount of flora & fauna in our local woodland on the Doward. Whilst relaxing on the campsite you can spot squirrels, woodpeckers, robins, jays, deer and more. In the woodlands we have foxes, badgers, and a number of rare species such as the grizzled skipper butterfly and if you are lucky whilst walking the nature reserves at night you may spot a glow worm! Butterfly Zoo & Maze
The butterfly zoo and maze are great for the kids and a good wet weather activity! You can witness their life cycle, from egg to caterpillar and from chrysalis to butterfly. Walking around surrounded by exotic butterflies is sure to keep the kids mesmerized! The traditional hedge maze and a 12 hole miniature golf course allow you to make a day of it. Climb A Mountain!
Just a short hop over the border to Wales and you have an excellent choice of mountains to climb! There's no better view from the top of a mountain; here are some of our favourites: Sugar Loaf Standing at 596m and offering panoramic views over south Wales and south-west England, Sugar Loaf is one of our favourite mountains to climb. It is a 40 minute drive from the campsite and takes around 2.5 hours. Skirrid From the top of Skirrid you can see Herefordshire, the Black Mount


Discover the secret world beneath the forest at Clearwell Caves
Descend 100ft underground and explore the 9 caverns of Clearwell Caves, including an underground pool featuring fossils over 300 million years old! The trip is self-guided and takes about an hour. The caves can be cold so bring something warm and some decent shoes! The caves are a 25 minute drive from the campsite; you can find more information on opening times & prices here .


Fun for all at Beechenhurst
Go Ape At Go Ape Beechenhurst Kids aged 4 - 10 can have fun on the 'Treetop Adventure' with high ropes and zip wires and wobbly bridges through the woods! Those over 10 can experience the thrill of the 'Treetop Challenge' at Mallards Pike, with over a quarter of a mile's worth of zip wires and Tarzan swings! You can find more information here . Discover the magic of Puzzlewood
Let your kids imagination run wild! Famous on the big screen; from 'Star Wars' and 'Doctor Who', to David Attenborough's 'Our Planet', the ancient woodland of Puzzlewood is a truly enchanting place. Head Underground At The Big Pit National Coal Museum
About a 40 minute drive away in the Big Pit National Coal Museum. This place is a real coal mine and one of Britain's leading mining museums. A trip takes you 300 feet underground to learn what life was like for the thousands of miners working there; followed by a very informative museum. This is a great rainy day activity!
