This impressive limestone cave is steeped in legend and history, making it a favourite with families, walkers and anyone exploring the Great Doward Although linked to the legend of King Arthur, the cave is actually much older. Archaeological excavations uncovered the remains of woolly mammoths, cave hyenas, reindeer and even evidence of prehistoric human activity dating back thousands of years. One of the best things about staying at Doward Park Campsite is that you don't even need to get in the car. How far is King Arthur's Cave from Doward Park?

Just a 5–10 minute walk, making it one of the easiest attractions to visit during your stay.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes. Children love exploring the cave, although they should always be supervised because the ground can be uneven.

Can I take my dog?

Yes, dogs are welcome on the woodland paths.

Is there parking?

If you're staying at Doward Park, there's no need to drive. If visiting separately, Lord's Wood car park is the nearest public parking area, although spaces can be limited during busy weekends.

Is it free?

Yes, visiting King Arthur's Cave is completely free. Our tip: Don't just visit the cave on its own. Continue on to the Seven Sisters Viewpoint for spectacular views over the River Wye before looping back through the woodland. It's one of our favourite short walks from Doward Park taking around 30 minutes. Best time to visit: The woodland surrounding King Arthur's cave is particularly stunning in spring when a carpet of bluebells and wild garlic fill the forest floor.
