The route takes you across the iconic Biblins Suspension Bridge before following peaceful woodland paths and riverside trails into the town, where you can explore independent shops, cafés, historic streets and the famous medieval Monnow Bridge.

What can you see in Monmouth?
Monnow Bridge
One of the last remaining medieval fortified river bridges in Britain. There are several picnic tables next to thje river Monnow to relax and enjoy a picnic.
Shire Hall Museum
Free to visit and a great place to learn about Monmouth's history.

Browse local boutiques, bookshops and gift shops.
Cafés & pubs
There are plenty of cafes & pubs to choose from, perfect for lunch before returning to the campsite.
River Wye
Take a leisurely stroll beside the River Wye and watch for swans, ducks, herons and kingfishers while enjoying views across the water. Monmouth Castle Explore the remains of Monmouth Castle, the birthplace of King Henry V, overlooking the town centre.

Cross Biblins Suspension Bridge, then return the same way. The opposite bank of the River Wye isn't suitable for cycling.
How long does the walk/cycle take?
Allow around 3–4 hours to enjoy the walk, explore Monmouth and stop for lunch. Cycling usually takes 30–45 minutes each way.

Yes the route is mostly flat and easy going.

Yes, older children who enjoy walking or cycling.
Are there toilets in Monmouth?
Yes there are public toilets near the Monnow bridge.
Is there somewhere to eat?
Yes there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from in Monmouth.
Is there parking if I don't want to walk or cycle? Yes there are several paid car parks. The main one being the Cattle Market car park. Our tip: Visit Monmouth on market day if you can, then enjoy lunch in one of the independent cafés before following the riverside path back to Doward Park.
