Visiting Tintern Abbey & Tintern Village Just 30 minutes from Doward Park Campsite, Tintern is one of the Wye Valley's most picturesque villages. Best known for the spectacular ruins of Tintern Abbey, the village also offers riverside walks, independent cafés, country pubs and beautiful scenery, making it a fantastic day out for couples, families and walkers. 📍 Drive: 30 minutes

What can you see?
Tintern Abbey:
One of Britain's finest medieval abbey ruins, famous for its soaring Gothic arches and beautiful riverside setting.

Devil's Pulpit:
A rewarding woodland walk leading to one of the best viewpoints overlooking Tintern Abbey. Where can I park? There is a large pay-and-display car park beside Tintern Abbey, along with some limited roadside parking in the village. During busy weekends and school holidays it's worth arriving early.
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs on leads are welcome around the site, although access inside some parts of the abbey is restricted.
How long should I allow?
About an hour for Tintern Abbey but you can easily turn it into a full day by combining local walks & cafes.
Where can I eat in Tintern?
The Filling Station cafe is a very popular spot for a drink and a bite to eat. There are also several local pubs including The Rose & Crown, The Royal George and The Anchor Inn
Do I need to book in advance to visit Tintern Abbey?
No you can just turn up, however booking in advance gives you a 5% discount

Our tip: Visit Tintern Abbey first thing in the morning before walking up to Devil's Pulpit for one of the most spectacular views in the Wye Valley. Afterwards, enjoy lunch in one of Tintern's cafés before returning via the Wye Valley Greenway. If you want to get off the beaten path take a short walk to the ivy covered St Mary's Church.
For photographers Tintern Abbey is particularly beautiful in the early morning or late afternoon when the light shines through the Gothic windows.
