Beechenhurst is one of the best family attractions in the Forest of Dean and is around 25 minutes from Doward Park Campsite. With woodland play areas, walking trails, the famous Sculpture Trail, Go Ape, cafés and cycling routes, it's easy to spend a whole day here. 📍 Drive: 25-30 minutes

What can I do in Beechenhurst? Go Ape Go Ape offers one of the Forest of Dean's most exciting outdoor adventures, with high ropes, zip wires and forest obstacles for a range of ages. Younger children (4–10) can enjoy the Treetop Adventure at Beechenhurst, while older children and adults can tackle the larger Treetop Challenge at nearby Mallards Pike.

Woodland Play Area
The huge woodland play area is perfect for younger children, with climbing equipment, slides, balancing logs and plenty of space to run around. It's one of our favourite places in the Forest of Dean for families looking to let the kids burn off some energy.
Is there parking?
Yes, there is a large pay-and-display car park.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are welcome throughout Beechenhurst, although they should be kept under control around the play area and other visitors.
How long should I allow?
Most visitors spend between 3 and 5 hours here, depending on whether they're walking, cycling or visiting Go Ape.
Is Beechenhurst suitable for toddlers?
Yes. The play area, woodland paths and café make it an excellent destination for younger children.
Our tip: Arrive in the morning so younger children can enjoy the play area before it gets busy. Afterwards, follow the Sculpture Trail and finish with lunch in the café before heading to the nearby Forest of Dean Cycle Centre or Mallards Pike.
