At Doward Park Campsite we are surrounded by forest, much of it ancient, so we are lucky to live among an abundance of animals, perfect for wildlife lovers. On site you are guaranteed to see many species of bird - perhaps taking a bath by the wardens caravan! Badgers, foxes and deer live in the surrounding areas and can be spotted if you're quiet, particularly at night time. You're also likely to hear the call of Tawny Owls and sometimes the drumming of woodpeckers. Many butterflies and moths can also be spotted at the many nature reserves around us.
Birds of prey can often be spotted flying over, and if you take a walk up to Symonds Yat Rock you have a good chance of seeing peregrine falcons as they nest on the cliffs there.
We have a wildlife themed adventure hunt around the site for children to encourage enthusiasm as well as a bug hotel by the play area.
In our shop we stock The Herefordshire Wildlife Trust 'Wildlife of the Doward' booklet.
For those seeking an experience with more exotic wildlife, Wildside Exotic Rescue is now offering some open days at their wonderful sanctuary a 20 minute drive from our site. More information and booking can be found on their website here.
